Day 4

This was a pretty "low-key" day. With Leslie trying to get on her feet, we decided to lay low and not venture out today, so she could rest and get plenty of water. So we hung out around the room and played. We took a walk around inside the hotel and one outside where we found some flower shops and a wedding dress store. We figured Grace and Cate would get a kick out of that and snapped a few pictures for them. We get a lot of stares and some smiles. Leslie and I alone stick out like a sore thumb here and then throw in that we have a little Chines kid and you can see why we draw a lot of attention. Our Guide Jackie found us during supper and brought us all the documents we need and Jack's passport. So we are ready to head to Guangzhou now. Woohoo! We can't wait!

 

We have had a ton of amazing support from family, friends, and even complete strangers. We've also had a few, who felt like we had no business adopting, or that we should be adopting from the US if we were going to adopt. Well, I'm glad to say those people are so wrong. We have the exact little boy that God intended for us to have. If you have followed the blog, you know he is a perfect fit for our family. He shares qualities and traits with each of us and yet is his own little guy. God paid attention to all of the details in pulling this together. Stuff that just blows your mind. Our sister/friend Angel shared this yesterday "I can tell he is just great; if I ever had doubts; God forgive me; he is a perfect fit for all of us!  No child in America could have been JACK!  He makes my heart smile!" After spending 4 days with this precious, sweet, loving, fun, tough, brave, little guy and spending a few minutes with his beautiful little friends in his orphanage, I KNOW, I KNOW, we did the right thing in answering God's call to care for the orphans. We heard a sermon once that said...God doesn't call the prepared, he prepares the called. We were called and he has given us everything we have needed for this journey. We are so blessed. It is so amazing to sit and watch him in everything he does. You think about his little life and what he's gone through to bring him to this point and yet...he has still missed out on so much. He is full of spirit, character, love, and a desire to live. The way he eats and cleans his chin, his independence and desire to take care of himself in every aspect, etc...he has been in survival mode for 4 years. He does things that most 4 year olds couldn't begin to do and yet he doesn't do things that most 4 years olds do. Leslie was folding clothes and he sat down and folded clothes. He held them under his little chin and folded them and made little piles. It was all pretty neat too...he has obviously had to do this before. He is big on picking up trash and throwing it away. He likes all of his toys in one pile. He is a creature of routine. We do something once and that is the way we he likes to do it from then on. He is so super smart. He just takes everything in, and you can watch him figure things out and he remembers absolutely everything. I look at him and my heart is just overflowing with love for this little bitty kiddo with the huge dimples. We are starting to see a pattern here...mommy is for loving and cuddling and she has to be the heavy and daddy is just another big toy that mama brought along for Jack to play with. Everything we do is funny. I tell him "boo" which means "no" and he bursts out belly laughing. So we are working on that.
